BRIEF

Debitam is an online accounting and tax filing company dedicated to making the lives of its clients easier by doing annual tax filings for them. They offer a quick, paperless service, making that time of the year feel less painful. Based in London, UK, they are partnered with the likes of Lloyds Banking Group, Stripe, Quickbooks, and many more well-known players in the niche of business accounting.

Debitam came to us looking for a 60 second ad that could play at the opening night of a Magician's show on the West End, as well as to be used for YouTube ads later down the line. The team were open to ideas, and wanted us to use our creative experience to come up with an idea that would entertain and engage audiences.

PRE-PRODUCTION

After a number of detailed calls to understand the brand, the problem they solve and their target audiences further, our creative team brainstormed a number of ideas that would highlight many of the company's key selling points. We used our experience creating effective narrative adverts to ensure we were displaying how the company can save businesses time and stress. We drafted together a script and storyboard, and used this to inform the tone, style and look of the sets, actors, props and locations.

Throughout the pre-production process, our producers worked closely with our creative team and our wider network to source materials, props, costumes, actors, equipment and crew to help bring the idea to life. This included hiring a number of locations local to us, as well as working with local businesses to provide spaces and props. Pre-production took roughly 2 weeks.

The shoot took place over two days, filming across 4 locations. We split the days into morning and afternoon shoots, giving ourselves strict but ample time scales to capture what we needed.

The film was shot in 5K on our RED Scarlet-W cameras, enabling us to capture every detail with brilliant clarity and colour. We shot at 48fps, giving us both beautiful slow motion footage, as well as the flexibility to speed up the clips to 24fps in post if required.

We kept the look consistent with each location, creating a hazy atmosphere to add depth to the environment.

We spent time finding an appropriate voiceover artist and song, as we understood from experience the importance of getting the tone correct. Having worked on tongue-in-cheek adverts before, we were careful to ensure the humour aided the story, and wasn't a distraction from the overall message.

For this project, we delivered 1x 60-second feature ad as well as 4x 8-second clips, 4x 12-second clips, and 4x 30-second clips all formatted and optimised for social ad use.

WHO ARE THEY?

It can be hard to keep on top of accounts as a company or sole trader. Debitam offer company accounts and tax filing for just £299, allowing you to focus on what really matters.

WHAT DID WE DO?

We created an advert that would display three individuals experiencing drastic misfortune in their jobs because of spending far too much time focusing on their accounts.

WHAT WE CREATED

With 10 days to plan, produce and complete, we delivered the advert that was later shown at 'Wonderville Magic & Illusion Show' - a sold out West End performance. Featuring a magician, baker and property owner, the advert is filled with comedic adversity.
